Capability Settings

In a template or workbook with capability elements it is possible to add approvals to each individual element. These are called Capability Approvals. It is important to distinguish between Capability Approvals, which are added to individual capability elements within a submission, and Approvals, which are added to a submission as a whole.

At the top of the Capability Settings tab is the option to enable Capability Approvals. 'Yes' is selected by default but if you are not using this tool simply click 'No' and adding approvals to capabilities will no longer be an option for assessors on this particular workspace.

To configure the approval statements for capability approvals click on Capability Settings. There are three approval options, positive, neutral, and negative, and the associated approval statements can be edited in each box. Add the desired statements and click Save.

Adding Capability Approvals to a Submission

The important thing to understand with Capability Approvals is that they are added to template elements instead of the submission as a whole. To add capability approvals to a submission, open the asset and go to the page containing capability elements. For each capability element there will be an approvals icon to the right .

Note: The default permissions for Managers do not have the ability for Lead tutors to add capability approvals checked. If you are a Lead tutor and cannot see the icon, please check the Manager permissions for the Workspace.

Add capability approval

Click on this icon to open the feedback panel. The panel will be headed Capability Approval so that you know that this feedback is being added to a capability element rather than the submission as a whole. Click on the Add Approval button at the top and you will have the option to select from the capability approval statements. You can also use all the other feedback features such as feedback collections, feedback templates, and adding an attachment. REMEMBER to click Save & Close when you are finished.
