The Activity Log allows users to aggregate assets relevant to a particular project or endeavour and is often used to demonstrate activity over a given time span. The Activity Log can track progress towards target hours or points. Any asset can be added to an Activity Log, either manually or automatically based on tagging.

Everything you create or upload in Pebble is kept in your Asset Store. These are the records of your learning, achievements or aspirations. You can also access assets that other people have shared with you and assets that you are collaborating on.

Any item created within PebblePad or uploaded into the system is known as an asset.

An assignment is a defined activity within an ATLAS workspace. Each workspace can contain one or more assignments, each with different deadlines and associated resources.

ATLAS stands for Active Teaching, Learning and Assessment Space. It is the Institutional Space designed to support teaching and learning activities. It is the space to which learners, organised into groups or sets on workspaces, submit work from Pebble+ for feedback, peer review, or validation.

A banner is a decorated strip that can be added to the top of any Asset and Resource. There are a range of banner designs for you to choose from and you can design your own.

A blog in PebblePad is a chronological online diary tool that can only be viewed by the person who creates it, unless they choose to share it with one or more others. It can be used for whatever purpose you choose, for example as a reflective journal, a project diary, or a placement diary.

Internet browser, web browser or browser is a piece of computer software that allows you to access websites. There are different browsers available but those which are most commonly installed on computers include Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, AOL Explorer, Edge and Google Chrome.

Browser Check is a page on the PebblePad website that tells you at a glance whether your computer is set up correctly for PebblePad to work properly. It shows you what type of browser you have, what version of Flash you are using, and whether certain settings such as Cookies and Pop-ups are enabled.

A Collection is a single page list of assets brought together based on specific search criteria, for example, tags, keywords or date range. Over time, as you add new assets to your store which fit within the defined criteria they are automatically added to the Collection.

Contacts are people or groups that you have chosen to share Assets or Resources with. Contacts can be people from within your organisation who also have PebblePad accounts or external people who do not have PebblePad accounts. Once you have shared with a contact the first time, they will appear as an option to select when you start typing their name the next time you try to share with them.

A 'cookie' is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a website. At PebblePad we use cookies to improve the quality of our service and to better understand how people interact with us.

A Creator has permissions to create new workspaces within an ATLAS Region, without being able to change any other settings at the Region level. A Creator automatically becomes a manager for any workspace they create.

The Dashboard in both Pebble and ATLAS provides an overview of activity related to your Assets and workspaces. In ATLAS you will have a Member’s Dashboard and may also have a Manager’s Dashboard if you have manager permissions on one or more workspaces.

Defaults are the settings in the system when you first log in. Defaults are set to meet the needs of most standard activities but can be changed as desired.

Uploaded files that contain word docs, pdf, excel spreadsheets, etc, are saved as Documents. The Asset Store can be filtered to show only Documents.

This is the process which normally occurs when you transfer a file or piece of software from, for example, a website onto your computer. You tend to receive downloads and send uploads.

This is a portfolio that is accessed via the internet, so is called an online or ePortfolio.

Exporting refers to the process of moving a copy of some or all of the content out of a PebblePad account or an ATLAS workspace. All exports are in PDF format which can then be printed or saved.

An External is a person without a PebblePad account who is given access to an Asset via a Share or to a workspace in ATLAS.

A Feedback Collection is a set of Feedback Statements organised around a particular theme. Feedback Collections can be made available for reuse on other ATLAS workspaces.

Feedback Statements can be added to an ATLAS workspace and used by all managers to quickly add comprehensive feedback on users’ submitted assets.

Feedback templates can be added to an ATLAS workspace and used by all managers to scaffold the feedback process. A feedback template must first be created in the Template Builder and given the category of ‘Feedback’ in the template properties panel.

Filtering is a process that allows you to search for a specific item or category of item by selecting the criteria you want to filter on. This enables you to find what you are looking for more quickly.

An icon is a normally a small image, usually displayed as a picture, character or symbol. It can represent a particular type of record e.g. an ability icon, or can be an active button that, when selected, performs a particular task e.g. edit, preview, and save are icons that you will see in PebblePad.

The Link option in the formatting toolbar enables you to hyperlink from text in one asset to another asset, a resource, a website or an email address.

Logs contain a history of all the transactions that have occurred in an area within ATLAS. Logs can be found at the Organisation, Region and Workspace levels.

Managers are users who have administrative permissions within ATLAS. There are two broad roles for managers in ATLAS – those who can create extensions to the structure e.g. regions or workspaces; and those who simply manage the activities within a workspace.

Uploaded files that contain images or videos are saved as Media. The Asset Store can be filtered to show only Media items.

Members are users who typically submit work to a workspace for feedback or assessment. Their permissions on the workspace are determined by the workspace managers.

Throughout your use of Pebble you will receive many email notifications generated by Pebble+ and ATLAS in relation to shares, comments, reminders, receipts, feedback and resources. You can set how and when you would like to receive these Notifications via the Notifications option under the Burger Menu > Additional Settings in Pebble+.

The organisation is the highest level of structure in ATLAS. Organisations can be divided into Regions, which is the level that hosts Workspaces

A Page is a single page, evidence-based website, used to present stories about your activities, learning, personal profile, or any other number of topics. A Page can contain a range of elements, including images and videos. It can also contain links to other assets within your Asset Store or to external items on the Internet.

Pebble+ is the Personal Learning Space. Pebble+ incorporates a range of tools to help you plan, record, reflect on and evidence your learning. This may include any development activity, be it formal, educational, work-based, self-directed, personal or professional. Everyone has the same Pebble+ account, regardless of role.

When you share an asset or resource with one or more others you can choose what they can do with your asset or resource using Permissions.

Permissions are also used in ATLAS to refer to what managers and members can do within a workspace, region or the organisation.

A Portfolio is a multiple page presentation or website made up of two or more assets – typically Pages. Portfolios act a little like binders allowing additional pages to be added, edited, or removed at any time. Other assets and templates can be added as pages in a Portfolio making it a very flexible way to collate information and evidence. You can create as many Pages and Portfolios as you want in Pebble+.

A Post is a Page asset that is added to a Blog. When created it saves in the Blog and saves as a separate asset in your asset store. Anything from a simple thought containing a short textual snapshot through to a rich record including video or images can be added. The Asset Store can be filtered to just show Posts.

Makes the asset available on the internet with an open URL that can be included in emails, websites, etc. Anyone accessing the URL can view the asset.

An asset that is created by completing a template from the the Resource Store is saved as a Record. Records are categorised as Experiences, Plans, Reflections or Talents.

The ATLAS Organisation can be divided into Regions to represent the institutional structure of Schools or Faculties. Workspaces live within Regions.

The Resource Store is a store for templates and workbooks that you build or other people make available for you to use.

Resources are materials made available to users via the Resources page in an ATLAS workspace. Resources can be made available at the Organisation and Region levels for all associated workspaces to use. Users can also access Resources made available to them via links on their ATLAS Dashboard.

A workspace with a large number of members can be organised into smaller Sets, typically to replicate tutor groups. Tutors can normally only see the work from students within the sets to which they are assigned. Lead Tutors can see and manage all sets.

You can give others access to one of your assets or templates via a Share. PebblePad works on live links so when you Share with another you are giving them permission to see the asset as it exists in your Asset Store. As you make further changes to the asset, the person you have shared with will see these changes. You have full control over what the other person can do with you asset and how long they have access to it for. You can change or remove any of these permissions at any time.

Submit is the term used to describe sending work to an ATLAS workspace. PebblePad works on live links so when you Submit an asset to a workspace you are allowing anyone with view permissions (typically Managers) on the workspace to see your asset as it exists in your Asset Store. As you make further changes to the asset these are immediately visible on the workspace. You can remove an asset from a workspace at any time.

Tags are labels you can attach to your assets to help you to search and organise, and to find related assets. For example, you might add a particular tag to all the assets you create relating to a project you are involved in. You can then list all of these assets in a single search or create a Collection of these assets based on that tag. You can add multiple tags to a single asset, enabling the one asset to appear in different searches and collections based on the tags it has been given.

A Template is an empty form with one or more questions or prompts for the user to complete. Templates are designed to scaffold the process of creating records of learning and experience. PebblePad comes with a number of default Templates that are generic and designed to support a range of tasks. These are grouped into four categories – Plan, Experience, Reflection, Talent. Templates that you design or are made available to you by others are found in your Resource Store. When you complete a Template it is saved as an Asset in your Asset Store.

There are a number of default templates within Pebble+ to help you record activities, make plans or capture information. These templates are generic and broadly designed to support a range of tasks. To allow for maximum flexibility Pebble+ includes a Template Builder to enable you or people working with you to create a template for any given purpose. You can share your templates so other people can use them to support their activities.

Upload refers to the process of transferring a file from your computer to a web based system such as PebblePad. This is the opposite of download where you take a file from another system and save it on your local computer.

A workbook is a multiple page booklet that can be designed to deliver content and interactive material to the user for learning, revision or for assessment. A workbook typically contains multiple templates but can also contain holders for users to add Blogs, Foliopages, Collections, and Activity Logs. Workbooks can be shared directly with users and can be made available to groups of users via ATLAS workspaces. The workbook creator can continue to add new pages, or make changes to existing pages, even after the workbook has been made available to users. This enables a ‘drip-feed’ of activities rather than having to provide everything up front, as with Portfolios.

A Workspace is an area within ATLAS created for a group of users undertaking common activities within a defined time frame. Members submit assets to a workspace for feedback, assessment, peer review, etc. A Workspace has up to five pages – About, Submissions, Resources, Community, and Conversations.
